After a row of recent victories for the Chicago Bears, this 2011 NFL Season was looking great. However, after a fairly serious thumb injury sustained early in the fourth quarter, Jay Cutler may be out of action for a bit. Cutler received this injury while trying to tackle a Chargers cornerback after an intercepted pass intended for receiver Johnny Knox. For many Chicago Bears fans, it seems this season has hit a small bump in the road.
Lovie Smith stated on WBBM radio early Monday morning that Jay Cutler will be undergoing surgery on his thumb due to a fracture.
What does this mean for our beloved Chicago Bears? Being pretty strong playoff contenders, does this set them back? We know Jay is looking to return to action just before the end of the regular season, but will he be out of action too long before the playoff action begins? So many questions are looming and we’re sure to see what the Bears have up their sleeves as well as replacement quarterback Caleb Hanie.
When asked about his expectations about Hanie as a replacement for Cutler, Lovie Smith said optimistically: “Same play from our quarterback position. Caleb has played a lot for us around here. We feel comfortable with him being our quarterback. It’s always next guy up. We’ve had other injuries at other positions. That’s what it’ll be.
