The 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
Hyundai goes BLUE!!! The 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid becomes the first production use of Hyundai’s Hybrid Blue Drive technology. Hyundai is challenging Toyota and Ford in the mid-size hybrid market by unveiling the all new 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid at the 2010 New York Auto Show.
Under the Hood of the 2011 Sonata Hybrid
Hyundai calls its hybrid system “Blue Drive“. For the 2011 Sonata, it means combining the 2.4-liter Theta II gas engine (running on the Atkinson Cycle), which produces 169 hp at 6,000 RPM and 156 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 RPM, with a a 30 kW electric motor (151 lb-ft of torque) via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Fuel Economy
At 37 MPG in the city and 39 MPg on the highway, projected fuel economy is close to the Fusion hybrid (41/36 MPG), and which will do best will depend on whether it is used mostly in the city or on the highway.
The 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is expected in Hyundai showrooms later this year.
