Hyundai has performed tests on the batteries for over 300,000 miles showing very minimal degradation of its output, giving confidence to all owners of new Hyundai Sonata hybrid models.

DETROIT — More good news for Hyundai fans. The 2012 Hyundai Elantra has been named a finalist for the North American Car of the Year Award. Other finalists are: The Ford Focus and Volkswagen Passat. Both admirable competitors, but as Hyundai enthusiasts know, they don’t hold a candle to the 2012 Elantra. It has been an amazing year for Hyundai and having the Elantra selected as a finalist for this prestigious award continues to showcase the efforts that Hyundai has made in their quest for quality, affordability, safety, and styling.

The finalists were announced today at a meeting of the Automotive Press Association.

Winners of the 19th annual competition will be named on Jan. 9, prior to the opening of the Detroit auto show. Hyundai fans will all have their fingers crossed.

The awards for new or substantially redesigned vehicles are judged by 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada. Criteria include general design, safety, fuel economy, handling and roadworthiness, performance, comfort, quality, functionality, innovation, driver satisfaction, price and value. Last year the Hyundai Sonata was edged out by the Chevy Volt in what some have considered a politically motivated move.

The finalists were selected from among 300 other new 2012 car models. Judges based their choices on exterior and interior style, fun-to-drive factors, and the most important feature, it’s head-turning capability.

The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is the second consecutive Hyundai model to be chosen for this award (the previous being the all-new 2011 Hyundai Equus last year).

So, I was catching up on one of my favorite shows this past weekend (as well as stuffing my face with yummy food), AMC’s popular television series, “The Walking Dead“, and I spotted a Hyundai Tucson! Low and behold, Shane, one of the survivors from the group, spots the vehicle along a highway in Atlanta and walks over to it, finding a set of keys in the ignition. He takes a quick crack at starting it up and voila! The group of survivors have a new Hyundai Tucson crossover SUV to lug all that survival gear in.

Of course, the Tucson was a little dirty but what else do you expect during a zombie apocalypse? Freshly clean cars are a rare commodity (I’m guessing, I haven’t experienced it personally). Now that we know it can survive a zombie apocolypse, those Chicago winters won’t be any trouble at all for the Tucson to handle! Be sure to catch the midseason finale if you already haven’t. The season picks back up on Sunday, February 12th with episode 8 entitled: Nebraska. Lots of secrets have been revealed this season so far; will Rick, Shane and the crew make it out alive? Will the Hyundai Tucson also make it out alive? Watch and find out. You can catch The Walking Dead every Sunday on AMC 9/8c.
